How it works
A glitch text generator stacks Unicode combining marks — accents, hooks, and strokes normally used one at a time, like the accent on é — onto every letter you type, dozens deep instead of one. Because every mark is a standard Unicode character, the corrupted result is still plain text, not an image or a font, so it copies and pastes anywhere Unicode is accepted.
When you'd use this
- Discord and gaming usernames: a cursed or zalgo-style name stands out in a server member list or game leaderboard full of plain text.
- Horror or creepypasta content: glitch text is the go-to way to make a caption or comment look corrupted without editing an image.
- Standing out in a crowded feed: a single glitched word in an Instagram caption or X post breaks the visual pattern of a normal-text timeline.
Frequently asked questions
What is zalgo text?
Zalgo text is normal text with many Unicode combining marks stacked above, through, and below each character, creating a corrupted, 'cursed' look. It's named after an internet-horror meme from the late 2000s. Because the marks are standard Unicode, zalgo remains plain text you can copy and paste.
Is glitch text safe to use?
Yes. It contains only standard Unicode characters — no code, no scripts. The only caution: screen readers announce every mark, so avoid it in accessible contexts, and very heavy zalgo can be treated as spam by some moderation systems.
Why does my glitch text look different after pasting?
Some platforms cap how many combining marks they render or strip them entirely. The text itself is unchanged; the platform is limiting the display. Try a milder intensity or a single-line style like strikethrough.
Can I use glitch text in usernames?
It depends on the platform. Discord nicknames usually allow it; many signup forms only accept letters and numbers. If a username field rejects it, that platform filters non-basic characters and there's no workaround.
